“I swear I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow”
– Leo Christopher
Way back in 2015 when Katie and Thano first approached me to photograph their wedding, they asked me if I had ever photographed a Greek wedding. I hadn’t before, but I told them it didn’t matter – No matter what type of wedding, the underlying theme is still the same: the bride and groom’s love for each other and their subsequent convergence as a family. And in reality, every wedding can be boiled down to that concept, which is why I approach wedding photography the way I do. There is no doubt that Katie and Thano love each other deeply…they are wonderful together and even spending 5 minutes with them will show you that. But there is also so much more there…deep love for family, traditions, culture, and religion: They are the real package, and every bit of their wedding from start to finish was a perfect showcase for it all.
One of my favorite parts of the day is the very beginning, during the preparations. There are so many great moments, interesting compositions, and endless options for photography during these times, and I increasingly find myself preferring all-day weddings because of this. Katie and Thano’s did not disappoint in these regards.
I would be lying if I didn’t say that Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral is one of the most gorgeous churches I’ve ever photographed in. And it’s right here in the heart of Downtown Greenville SC. The wedding ceremony was beautiful, and so full of tradition and culture. I was so proud to have been there with them.
If you know one thing about Greek weddings, you know they like to celebrate. Katie and Thano’s wedding was no different. It was quite the challenge – I though covering a swing dancing wedding reception was a test of skill…but it didn’t hold a candle to the fast paced dancing here. No one holds back here. I was pouring sweat by the end, and it was one of the most enjoyable wedding receptions I’ve ever photographed.
Katie and Thano’s Greek wedding proved to be one of my favorite and most memorable weddings to date. I wish much love and a lifetime of happiness to the wonderful couple!
