“When you trip over love, it is easy to get up. But when you fall in love, it is impossible to stand again.”
— Albert Einstein
Ah rain! Â We all love rain, until we have to be out in it. Â After a long, dry summer, I was a bit surprised when I realized that it was going to rain all day long during Beth and Greg’s outdoor wedding at Greenbrier Farms. Â But that is the nature of weddings…things rarely go exactly as planned! Â And this is when the couple truly began to shine (pun intended). Â Being able to deal with rain on your wedding day is the ultimate test of character. Â You do what you can…obsessively plan for months and months – but you can’t control the weather. Â So how did Beth and Greg react when their outdoor wedding was rained out and they had to do everything indoors unexpectedly? Â They didn’t care. Â Because it isn’t about the wedding, it is about their love to one another, and their celebration of that love. Â And celebrate they did!
There were a lot of very interesting details that were planned for this wedding that fills a wedding photographer like me with joy. Â They had a TCBY ice cream bar instead of wedding cake. Â They had not one but TWOÂ amazing live bands, one of which was made up of a group of close friends. Â They had one of the coolest guestbooks I’ve ever seen, where guests snap instant photos of themselves and glue it to the book with a message for the bride and groom. Â Their getaway vehicle was a red ’64 1/2 Mustang. Â They had a short good-luck ceremony where they dug up a bottle of bourbon that they had buried at the venue a few days beforehand. Â And of course, there was lots and lots of dancing at the reception. Â All in all, it was one of the most interestingly detailed weddings I’ve ever photographed.
Sure the rain tends to limit certain things and makes it harder to do certain things that would normally be done in a wedding like this, but when the wedding is about love and not about needing everything to go perfectly, none of that matters. Â And these are great qualities to build a marriage on. Â Congratulations to Beth and Greg!
