Buckhorn Lodge Wedding at Paris Mountain State Park, SC

Elizabeth and Matt

Greenville, South Carolina

Greenville is a unique place when it comes to wedding photography. We are situated right at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, which means we have easy access to more scenic and natural areas than most places in in SC. One of those locations is Paris Mountain State Park, which happens to be right smack dab in the middle of Greenville. When it comes to wedding photography, it may not be as dramatic of a location as say, Table Rock State Park weddings can be, but it absolutely has it’s own unique charm. And for me, it is the best of both worlds…It is close to key amenities while still providing a beautiful natural location for a wedding. My style of wedding photography craves a natural component, so I knew Elizabeth and Ryan’s wedding here was going to be right up my alley. In fact, it is literally right up my alley since it also lies less than 10 minutes from my home.

Ironically, Camp Buckhorn happens to be less than 10 minutes from Elizabeth and Ryan’s home too. But they didn’t select it as their wedding venue simply because it was so close – they chose it for the same reasons I love photographing weddings there – Easy access while still providing a beautiful natural backdrop. Furthermore, since they had planned a smaller wedding, The Lodge at Camp Buckhorn really was an ideal place, since it was still small enough to retain a personal, intimate vibe (which is exactly what they were looking for). So what was the result with their Camp Buckhorn wedding? Just check it out below, and enjoy the ride.

But before all the magic above happened, there was a lot of work that needed to be done. Elizabeth chose to get ready at their home, while Matt chose to get ready on-site at the Lodge at Camp Buckhorn itself. Although there are multiple cabins at Camp Buckhorn, it is sometimes simpler to just get ready at home…especially when they lived so close. And after hair and makeup, we were still able to use the cabins for the remainder of Elizabeth’s photos, so win-win in my book.

Elizabeth and Matt also chose to do a first look before their wedding ceremony. This is one of my favorite things to do because it gives the couple a private time and place to see each other, without all the stress of the day itself. And as you will see from the ceremony photos, it did not detract at all from the emotion of the wedding itself.

Wedding Reception at The Lodge at Camp Buckhorn

The best part about small weddings is that everything is much simpler. We generally have tons of time to explore and relax, and less stress to get in the way. Elizabeth and Matt definitely created a relaxed day for everyone. They later mentioned their favorite part (aside from the wedding ceremony of course!) was the time they were able to sneak away for their couple’s photos during the reception. This was the most important aspect of their wedding to them, and since they didn’t have a traditional reception planned, it worked out perfectly. After some quick first dance photos, we were able to explore Camp Buckhorn and Paris Mountain a bit for their wedding photos. I always say relaxed scheduled make for relaxed couples, and relaxed couples take the best photos….Elizabeth and Matt were no exception to this!
