Greenville, South Carolina
Ah Summer! Long days full of sunshine mean that Summer weddings benefit from a little extra time for wedding photography before sunset…something wedding photographers love. But what about the heat? Every year I worry about Summer weddings just being too hot down here in the South, and every year I seem to be pleasantly surprised. I think some of that comes from the way Downtown Greenville is when it comes to wedding venues. After all, there is a huge difference between photographing in a shade-less field all day and photographing in multiple indoor, air-conditioned wedding venues. And that is one of the strengths of getting married in downtown Greenville – there are so many comfortable places all within walking distance of each other, which means you can have your wedding in the middle of a Summer heat wave and still be comfortable.
I think this was what Courtney and Jake were thinking too, at least to some extent. No one wants to sweat their makeup off for the sake of photos, or soak through their suits waiting around outside. After all, these two no-nonsense lawyers deal with enough stress in their day-to-day lives – I’m sure they didn’t want any extra stress to worry about during their wedding day too. And so they happened to choose one of my favorite combinations for a downtown wedding: Getting ready at The Embassy Suites, ceremony at a close-by church (First Presbyterian), and their reception at the Wyche Pavilion – all within walking distance. But of course who wants to walk around all day in the heat? So just as they are a totally unique couple, they made a fittingly unique choice for transportation – a charter bus. I hope this trend catches on, because that was the easiest ride I’ve ever had in between venues.
All in all, Courtney and Jake’s wedding day went off without a hitch. And even though it was in the middle of Summer, their reception choice at the Wyche Pavilion still allowed them to have a real party with an outdoor feel while maintaining some of that indoor comfort. So take a look through some of my favorite shots of theirs below – it was quite a day, and I am happy to have been there to experience it with them!
After the ceremony and everything was finished, it was time for the real fun – the reception! Courtney and Jake wanted a real celebration, and they did not disappoint. The Wyche Pavilion was the perfect setting for their wedding reception.
There you have it! Courtney and Jake’s First Presbyterian Church wedding…I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into their amazing wedding day!
